At first, it just sounded to me like another random disaster. But then some really surprising data came filtering out of the fire in Hawaii. At this point, I'm almost willing to bet that this is another case of Nero setting fire to parts of Rome where he wanted to build something. It's starting to look like the fires in Maui were intentionally set to clear choice land for a special building project someone has in mind. The vulture land buyers are harassing landowners with offers before they can even see the damage or salvage their belongings.
Survivors are stuck there for all the wrong reasons; there's no means to escape except by private watercraft, leaving with nothing. They are dying because the few enforcement agencies that are working the area are hindering relief supplies, according to reports from folks around the disaster zone. There has been one riot over this already. You would think they don't want any survivors getting out to tell a suppressed story.
If you survey what is known already, the whole thing looks very fishy. This is a very bad time in the US to live in the path of major developers. It doesn't matter at all what the nature of the project is. The gap between the haves and have-nots is widening daily, and it's already huge. Historically, it has been bad enough in the past here. For a while during the mid to late 1900s things were a little better, at least on the surface. The public sentiment was powerfully against the powerful. That's gone, now.
Not that the people have lost their vinegar over being abused, but that it's no longer fashionable for the press to report on their side. The money is in telling a different kind of story these days. Even your local news channels are avoiding some of the most important stories about events that involve ordinary people.
Then again, even when they got good coverage, it was slanted in certain directions. It's not simply that the wealthy are favored, but that one group of wealthy was fighting another. One older group has been taken down and a new group has replaced them. Now that they have won that war, it's time for the servile press to protect their position.
I'm no Trump fan, but his sorrows demonstrate how it all works. He is one of the few wealthy who violated the upper-class etiquette. He was doing well as long as his grease went to the appropriate squeaky wheels; he funded liberal causes for a long time, quite generously. I'm not too sure why he chose to run for office on the right, but I'm guessing the left was all locked down against his higher ambitions. What you see going on right now with the indictments is simply punishment for not staying in line. He's just a wealthy and powerful oppressor like the rest but is ambitious for attention that he doesn't warrant by their reckoning, and in this alone, I think they are right.
If he somehow returns to office, it will be a huge mess. He's made too many enemies without taking the measures necessary to defeat them. The only way he can win is to ensure his enemies die in large numbers in a very short time. It's not as if that could not be done, but I realized ten years ago that he was trying to win on the cheap. Not that he would have to pay so much to get loyal supporters to do that dirty work; they would gladly destroy the folks currently in power. But it would be a lot of work to make it all plausible without weakening his appeal.
He cannot use the system itself (lawyers, courts, etc.); his opponents own the whole thing. But there are a lot of very talented thugs and killers who aren't wholly owned by the system, and they would willingly serve Trump for a small bit of plunder, or a chance to settle old scores. All it takes is organization and mobilization.
Of course, you realize I'm not encouraging that kind of thing. It would cause more harm than good. I'm just trying to be realistic. The system really is controlled by an invasive force from outside of the core of America. They are the same outsiders that have plagued this country from the beginning. They lived here but were alien to the population. They inhabited their own world, parasitically perched on the backs of the nation.
And it has always been the nature of this nation to be stupid about that. The mass of Americans have always been suckers for that kind of government. The US Constitution itself was a big lie; it was crafted to leave gaps open that allowed the elite to seize power by stealth and deception. The American culture has always been ripe for that kind of abuse.
Again, I'm just being realistic here. This country cannot be mended. The system was broken from the start, and where we are now is just the end product of a very conscious design to bring things to this condition. The elite rode it hard and it's about to die, but that was their plans all along. To the last moment, they will be whipping the masses to extract the last bit of wealth they can before letting it all collapse on our heads while they escape.
What happened in Maui is sort of a microcosm of the whole thing.
