Satanism or Satanic worship is just a distraction. I'm not saying it's not real or that it doesn't exist, only that it really doesn't accomplish anything significant in the grand scheme of things. But while I don't regard this as a significant issue, some of my readers have asked or commented about it.
Let's keep this in context. The American concept of Satan is hogwash; it's just the agglomeration of silly pagan nonsense that tries to hijack the words of Scripture to say something entirely different. The Devil is our Enemy, but he is God's servant. While that snake is a problem, he is restrained by the Lord. Satan doesn't get to make the rules, and the typical lore about his powers is baloney.
Stop for a moment: How do you get yourself into Satan's hands? You don't; you are born under his dominion in the first place. Every human on this planet starts out under his authority. The common notion that we start out neutral is one of his lies. He owns you until you escape by grace, a miracle of God that the flesh does not want at all. That's because the flesh knows it will be required to surrender its rule over your life if your dead spirit is resurrected and Christ comes into your soul.
At least, that's how it supposed to work. If you don't separate your conscious will from the flesh and unite with the Spirit in your heart, then you'll still be living under the reign of the flesh. Your flesh cannot hear the Spirit, but it also cannot resist the authority of your heart committed to Christ. It will argue, but it has no power of its own. Its position in the driver's seat is by default until Christ reigns in you. You must consciously submit to Christ as Lord before the flesh loses its grip.
Some portion of the elohim council is allied with the Devil. As long as you have not made Christ Lord, then Satan and his pals own you through your fleshly nature. People who then decide to turn and worship the Devil gain nothing that matters. It most certainly does not make them any greater threat to us than before. Satan has nothing to offer; it's never been his MO.
They do have one thing only from this choice: They have a conscious mandate to deceive. They gain a sense of calling about doing the exact same evil stuff other humans do for any number of other reasons. For Satan worshipers, it becomes their mission and calling, not just the means to self-indulgence. They simply get better at lying and other evils. The Devil's "chosen" have no conscience to trouble them.
Claiming him as lord isn't the point there. Under the heading of "Satanism" is a whole bunch of crap that is often self-contradictory. You can find hundreds of people who claim to be Satanists or variations on that label, and most of them would argue with each other about what it means and what it requires. They tend to fall into several trends. One bunch is nothing more than Human Secularism, taking up the name of "Satan" simply to be provocative about it, poking at other religions, Christianity in particular.
There's another group whose whole shtick is simply mocking the Catholic Church. Other brands will mock various types of evangelical religion. A few incorporate a mixed bag of silly nonsense that they only imagine Satan would like. A significant number of them are simply fake. For example, Anton LaVey was just an attention hound trying to get rich by pretending to have special knowledge.
The so-called "Dark Arts" mentioned in the Bible refers to something else altogether. That is paganism. The elohim have powers that Satan doesn't; he's not really one of them. Remember, he's confined to human space, whereas the elohim are still in Jehovah's courts. While there is all manner of silly nonsense using the label of paganism, the "real deal" would be associated with folks like Aleister Crowley or others with a similar doctrine. I can't count the number of church folks who talk bad about him, and yet have no idea what he actually taught. Given our current situation historically, the only way to actually start touching the powers of the Dark Arts is to follow Crowley or parallel him.
Crowley understood that reality is inherently shaky and somewhat malleable, just as the Bible says. However, Crowley rejected Christian faith because all he knew about it was from bogus church folks who didn't even have the power of God working for them. So he went seeking those powers that the elohim can still grant to humans and found something that at least approaches the same stuff that Pharaoh's magicians did in front of Moses.
It's pagan religion, not Satan worship. It amounts to accepting the false message of the broader elohim resistance. They believe in moving the consciousness into the heart, but without spiritual birth. I've said before that this has always been open to any human with or without Christ. Genuine pagan believers are the heart-guided folks without Christ. They poke around in the parts of reality where the edges are not solid, the same ground mastered by those whom the Lord appoints to perform miracles. It's part of that primordial obsession of regaining the powers of Adam and Eve in Eden but without facing the Flaming Sword/Cross.
Those powers are real, but have very little utility when approached from that angle. It can certainly scare people who are stuck under the idea that reality is consistent and solid. It is not; reality is variable in ways we cannot understand. And that's how Pharaoh's magicians did spooky stuff, but could not match the miracles of Moses in the end.
Crowley ran into those limits, and so do his disciples, as do any religious pagans who follow other ancient traditions. The powers are real enough, but they have distinct limits because the elohim behind those powers are not Jehovah, the Creator.
Christians who testify about having come out of Satanic stuff or pagan stuff could well be telling the truth about what they experienced, but what they experienced is inherently deceptive. In the end, it cannot match what God does through His Covenant people. The Devil and his elohim buddies cannot cross the boundaries of the Covenant.
Satanism and paganism might appear to have an agenda, but it means nothing. You'll read or hear a lot about what a threat they are. Their powers are a distraction, not a real threat. We can cross the sea on dry ground; they cannot come close to that. They are less dangerous than the purely political threats we face.
All you really have to do is stay out from under the dominion of Satan or the elohim.
