Will We Do This?

15 October 2023

I'm doing all I can to restore what God really intended for us. I want to invite you to the Cross, to the Flaming Sword at the gate of Eden. I want you to lay claim to Psalm 51:

Create for me a pure heart, O God!
Renew a resolute spirit within me!
Do not reject me!
Do not take your Holy Spirit away from me!
Let me again experience the joy of your deliverance!
Sustain me by giving me the desire to obey!
Then I will teach rebels your merciful ways,
and sinners will turn to you. (Psalm 51:10-13 NET)

Think about this: What David wrote prefigures the entire New Testament. It's not so much prophetic foretelling as it was a frank revelation of God's agenda since the beginning. This was inherent in the Code of Moses, and Noah before that, and it outlines the message of Jesus. It's the call our God has put in the hearts of His true children since the day we left Eden. It's the call to return to Eden without the willful rejection of His provision.

I seriously doubt any of us had committed the dark deeds David had done to find himself inspired to write that psalm -- the business with Bathsheba and having her husband murdered to cover up adultery. If David was welcomed back, so are you and I.

As a history buff, I kept in the back of my mind a watchfulness for any clue or indicator that somewhere a group of people were truly His when catastrophe struck. Aside from a couple of episodes in the Old Testament, I haven't seen much.

It's one thing to have faith in the Lord. We have seen plenty of that. What's missing from the record is the fullness of faith in obeying the Covenant. It didn't matter which historical covenant we are talking about; it's the one thing that's always missing from the extra-biblical stories. Has the world seen this testimony of how God blesses His Covenant people while pouring out His wrath on sin?

Don't get tired of hearing this: The Covenant requires tribal feudal relations within the community. Don't get tired of proclaiming it. If we could just get that one part right, it would change everything.

Let me encourage you to contemplate this and pray over it, because His wrath is falling even now. Can we be, just the few of us, a unique sample of Covenant obedience through tribulation?
