Not the Only One

The Covenant creates a nation of hearts.

The flesh is just excess baggage. Our fleshly identity may even amuse us at times, but it is fragile and untrustworthy. Once we migrate our conscious awareness into our hearts and begin living by our convictions, we take upon ourselves a sort of schizophrenia. The flesh is one person; in our hearts we are another. While the flesh does know how to submit and serve, it tends to fight that and struggles to assert itself at every chance. For as long as we live, we are constantly watching and keeping it under the discipline of the Cross.

It follows therefore that we do not expect much from our mortal identity. I've said that we ditch it, abandon it as much as possible, but that's a figure of speech. It won't die on its own. Some of it is useful. This is how we communicate the gospel; we discipline the flesh to manifest the divine truth of God, which truth includes that the flesh itself is untrustworthy. It is a part of the natural world and must be managed the same way the natural world requires management. Flesh is just a tool.

This tool requires a certain level and type of maintenance in order to be useful. The details are a matter of conviction, but broadly, we allow the flesh certain things because they aren't inherently harmful. The Covenant offers a broad latitude in meeting the basic needs of our fleshly existence.

The Covenant assumes you will want marriage and children. The Covenant also provides a frame of reference for creating a tribal identity on this earth. However, that tribal identity is merely a place to express divine truth. It is not a thing unto itself that justifies all the effort most humans give to it. Thus, we should hardly be surprised when our progeny eventually migrate farther and farther from our Covenant faith. Disappointed, yes, but we should not be surprised. We will try to build a structure that nourishes faith, but we never forget that it is God who chooses the Elect, not us.

We are caught with a foot in both worlds. We must invest some effort and resources into our fleshly generations, but the bottom line is that they are not our real future. Our future is in the hearts of those who submit to Christ and His Covenant. We naturally expect our children to be influenced by such a commitment, but until they actually join our eternal family, there will always be a fixed chasm between us and them. They get the law until they enter grace. So we live with parallel systems. They don't receive less love, but there is always this recognition that we cannot share our true selves with them until they cross that unseen boundary line.

The real family for us is anyone who shares our Covenant boundaries and walks by their convictions. We simply cannot avoid making that distinction, no matter how much our heart aches for the children of our flesh. I've lost family members that I know died without any scintilla of faith. I know how it feels. A part of me still wonders if there was something more I could have done, but in the final analysis, faith will always be a miracle.

This is why we cannot let ourselves get too wrapped up in our human efforts. The eternal destiny of every human rests in God's hands, not ours. It is beyond our comprehension.

Is the Radix Fidem message important to God? Does it matter to Him whether that message gains traction with people? We didn't get here without divine guidance, so it matters to us. Should it turn out that this message was His call to just a tiny few, we will have to accept that. On the other hand, we've already seen how some parts of what drives us in faith has been granted to others without our involvement, when we stumble across their efforts to say some of the same things.

We have no manifesto for changing the world. All we can possibly know is that He drives us to this place, and that we are grateful to share it among just the few of us. I am convinced that before the solar catastrophes strike, this message will spread farther than we could ever imagine. What did it take for you to receive it? What kind of world-crashing events will it take to prepare others to receive it? This is no small step. There must be tribulation and sorrows well before the mass destruction on Planet Earth. There must be some horrifying oppression.

Do you understand that our strongest faith moments come when we are most crushed in the flesh? Are you really committed to the message? Are you ready, standing by until the Lord calls on you to receive your Elect brothers and sisters into the Covenant community? Am I the only one who sees that coming?
