Covenant Is Policy

27 October 2024

I've been asked to clarify something.

Let me reiterate that this blog is academic in nature. It is collegial; I'm not leading anything from here. And while there is no prophecy here, this blog is also prophetic in orientation. We are not adding to the record of revelation, but applying revelation to the current situation. God is at work and everything that happens among humans is rooted in the Unseen Realm. Only by divine invitation does anyone get a clue what's going on in Eternity.

Over and over again: My expectation is that you will test my words against your convictions. I do not pronounce His will for you, but I share what I am convinced He wants from me. I cannot be silent; it is by conviction that this blog exists and that I post on a frequent basis. If any of it works for you, then give Him the glory. I'm just a vessel.

One of my basic prophetic themes is that this is not a New Testament covenant facing Roman oppression. That was a specific context calling for a broad general response based on prophetic messages through the apostles. Today is different. Their so-called pacifism in the face of persecution was not the thing itself. Rather, it was what their convictions demanded of them in that context.

That's because the underlying message of Jesus was that "law" was not legislation and edict. Rather, it was God's policy and based on His priorities. The Covenant of Moses appears to us rather stern and strict because that is our western mindset. It was no such thing when viewed from the Hebrew perspective. The same applies to New Covenant teaching as well. It is policy, not edict.

You might be surprised at where this is going. More tomorrow...
